A 16x16 free standing deck on 16 pier blocks, not attached to your house: a big patio deck you can build with a circular saw, a drill and a helper.
Free standing deck plans PDF for a 16x16 floating deck (256 sq ft) on 16 pier blocks, with a three-riser stair: dimensioned drawings, a lettered cut list, numbered steps with one drawing each and a computed materials list. Joists and beams are checked at 85 percent or less of the allowed span.
Who it is for. Home builders comfortable with a circular saw, a drill and a level, with a helper for the beams and the concrete, who want a big patio deck without attaching anything to the house, with a shopping list for the lumberyard.
What is included
- Easy to follow and thorough: every cut has a letter, each of the ten steps has its own drawing, and there is a cut list and a materials and shopping list
- Permit drawing set included, ready to adapt for your permit application; some building departments require stamped drawings. It has a site plan template, footing plan, framing plan, elevations, section and details, with a code reference table and a materials schedule. At 256 sq ft this deck is over the usual 200 sq ft limit, so expect to need a permit.
- CAD files: a SketchUp-ready .dae 3D model plus DXF drawings (open them in AutoCAD, LibreCAD or FreeCAD), so you can change a size or hand the drawings to a drafter
- A printable PDF (US letter, 8.5 x 11 in) with dimensioned drawings, the cut list and the materials list
- 1 editable spreadsheet (.xlsx) with board counts, a materials cost calculator (type your local prices) and a pier load check
- The worksheets again as printable web pages (zipped), so you can reprint single pages any time

Please note. This is a digital download, no physical item ships. These are generic DIY plans, not engineered or stamped drawings, and the deck has not been tested to any standard. A 16x16 deck is 256 sq ft, over the 200 sq ft limit in the model code, so a permit is likely: check with your building office, call 811 before you dig, and add a guard wherever an edge is more than 30 in above the ground (the plan has no railing kit). The builder is responsible for safe construction and use. Colors can look a little different on your screen and printer. For personal use only; please do not resell or share the files. The included permit drawing set is a general DIY drawing set with no engineer\'s or architect\'s stamp: have your local building department review it for your site.
