How this comparison was built. We did not test any of these machines. Everything below comes from the specifications Grizzly and Amazon publish and from how the designs work. Where a competitor detail is not in a listing we can verify, we describe the class of machine rather than guess at a number.

Three saws in the same class

A 14 inch bandsaw is the size most home shops end up with, and the three machines here are all built around the same standard: 14 inch wheels, a roughly 13-1/2 inch throat, a 93-1/2 inch blade and a cast-iron table about 14 inches square. That shared standard is good news because it means blades, tires, guide bearings and many accessories are interchangeable across brands, so your choice is not locking you into one company's consumables.

The Grizzly G0555 is the one with the most published detail. Grizzly lists a 1 HP motor prewired for 110V (11A) with a 220V option at 5.5A, a 6 inch resaw height, two blade speeds at 1500 and 3200 feet per minute, a table that tilts 15 degrees left and 45 degrees right, a quick-release tension lever, computer-balanced cast-aluminum wheels, an aluminum rip fence, a miter gauge and a 3/8 inch blade in the box. It weighs 207 lb on a 24-1/2 by 17-1/2 inch footprint and stands 66-1/2 inches tall. Grizzly cites a Tool Digest award for best industrial-grade bandsaw and a WOOD Magazine best value mention, which we report as the company's own claims.

Where Harbor Freight fits

Harbor Freight sells 14 inch bandsaws under its Central Machinery brand. We are not naming a model number here because we cannot confirm the current lineup, and these listings change. What we can say from the design is what a buyer in this tier is usually choosing: a lower entry cost, a store pickup that avoids freight, and the ability to return to a store if something is wrong on arrival.

What a buyer is usually giving up is the depth of the support behind the machine. A bandsaw lives or dies by tuning: wheel coplanarity, guide settings, tire condition and tension. A machine whose manuals, parts diagrams and replacement tires are easy to find is easier to keep tuned over years. Grizzly keeps manuals and parts available on the product pages, and the 14 inch tire and blade sizes are shared with many brands, so replacement parts are not hard to source even for the cheaper tiers.

Harbor Freight carries its own Central Machinery line and does not sell on Amazon, so there is no Amazon button for it. We link the retailer plainly and earn nothing from that click. Check its current dust collector listings directly, since models and specifications change.

The Amazon option: WEN BA1411

The WEN BA1411 is the Amazon-sold saw that most closely matches the G0555 on paper. Its listing describes a 1 HP, 11-amp motor, a 13.5 inch cut width and 6 inch depth, a 14 by 14 inch cast-iron table that bevels 15 degrees left and 45 degrees right, dual voltage, two speeds of 1700 and 3000 FPM, a quick-release tension mechanism, ball-bearing guides, a steel stand, a 4 inch dust port, a T-fence and a 93.5 inch blade. The paper match to the G0555 is close enough that the choice comes down to where you want to buy and what support you expect.

The WEN advantage is shipping and returns through Amazon. The Grizzly advantage is a manufacturer with a long history of parts support for this frame, a manual and parts diagram on the product page, and a direct line to the company if something is missing. Neither company is publishing resaw capacity beyond 6 inches for these saws, so if you want to resaw wide boards, neither is the right size; step up to the G0555XH with 12 inches of resaw.

Buying, delivery and what to inspect

A bandsaw arrives heavy and partly assembled, and where you buy affects how you deal with problems. Harbor Freight lets you pick up and inspect a floor model in a store, which is a real advantage if you are unsure. A Grizzly arrives by freight and you inspect it at the door. With either, look at the table for flatness, the wheels for wobble when spun by hand, the fence rail for straightness, and the paint on the trunnions for chips that suggest rough handling.

Spin each wheel and look for a visible wobble in the rim. A cheap saw can have wheels that are out of true, which makes tracking a chore. Check that the table tilts smoothly through its range and locks without moving. Check that the upper guide post slides freely. None of this requires a test cut, and any issue that shows at the door is easier to resolve then.

Next, plan to replace the blade. The blade that ships in the box is a general-purpose one, and a better blade is the single biggest improvement you can make on any of these saws.

What the specifications do not tell you

A 1 HP motor on a 110V, 11A circuit is a realistic limit for a 14 inch saw. It will cut 6 inches of hardwood with a sharp blade and a slow feed, but it will bog down on a dull blade, which is why blade quality matters more than any horsepower difference between brands. Budget for one good blade immediately, regardless of which saw you buy.

Dust collection is also poor on nearly every bandsaw in this class. The saw has a 4 inch port at the lower housing, but the cut happens above it in an open cabinet and chips fall where they please. Plan to wear a respirator and use a sized collector for the port. For help choosing between wood and metal blades, see our wood versus metal bandsaw guide.

The verdict

Buy the G0555 if you want the best-documented saw in the group, you are comfortable with freight, and you want a manufacturer behind the parts. Buy the WEN BA1411 if Amazon returns and shipping matter. Buy the Harbor Freight class if the entry cost is the deciding constraint and you are willing to do more tuning. All three are 6 inch resaw saws, so if resawing is the point, look at our best bandsaws guide and the Grizzly G0555 review. Frequently asked questions

Is the Grizzly G0555 better than a Harbor Freight bandsaw?

It has more published detail, a cast-iron table and wheels with parts and manuals on the manufacturer site. We have not tested either, so we cannot rank real-world cutting. On paper the G0555 is the better-documented saw and Harbor Freight is the lower-entry option.

Do bandsaw blades fit across brands?

Most 14 inch bandsaws in this class take a 93-1/2 inch blade, so blades and many tires are interchangeable. Check your saw's manual for the exact blade length before ordering.

Can a 14 inch bandsaw resaw?

Within its limit. The G0555 and WEN BA1411 are both listed at 6 inches of depth. For taller stock you need a riser block or a saw like the G0555XH with 12 inches built in.

Does Harbor Freight sell bandsaws on Amazon?

No. Harbor Freight does not sell on Amazon, so the Amazon button on this page points to the WEN BA1411 as the closest Amazon-sold alternative.
